Adaptations of recognised and recently discovered operas for small ensembles

By using the limitations of space in a a positive fashion the Hamburg Chamber opera, since their formation in 1996, have always looked for innovative and new ways of using the 220 seat Allee Theater. Their original as well as contemporary, entertaining and intelligent interpretations of recognised and rediscovered operas, has captivated audiences and often led to thunderous applause.

By effectively reducing the orchestra only a small ensemble is necessary. Furthermore the adaptation of the dramaturgy together with the foundation of new German text versions, allows completely new ways of interpreting the work. The decision to introduce spoken dialogues next to the sung text, as well as unravelling the story-line using dramaturgical changes, means that the plot is particularly easy to follow. By doing this the maxim is achieved in a unique way and the audience if offered a challenging and entertaining evening of baroque theatre that can be enjoyed by all, and not just the classical opera visitor.

With this catalogue, that is continuously being amended - two to three new productions are created each year, - Ricordi makes these adaptations available to smaller houses and opera ensembles, and offers them the possibility of performing recognised, and also very recently discovered stage works, primarily coming from the 18th and 19th century.
