Andrés Maupoint studied Music from 1982 to 1989 at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile. He majored in piano under Fernando Cortés.

From 1989 to 1990 received a scholarship for the Écriture Musicale and studied chamber music unter the tutelage of Prof. Luic Mallié at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Lyon. From 1991 to 1995 he studied composition under Cirilo Vila at the Faculty of Arts, at the Universidad de Chile again, where he received his diploma.

From 1997 to 1999 he received a DAAD scholarship for postgraduate studies in composition at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Academy for Music und Theatre in Leipzig, where he studied under Dimitri Terzakis and graduated with a concert recital. During the winter semester 1999/2000, he was awarded the Franz Liszt scholarship in Weimar for young composers, which was followed by a postgraduate study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris with Paul Méfano.

Since March 2002, and in addition to his international concert career as a pianist, he has taught music theory at the Music Academy in Leipzig and is a member of ‘Synchronie Ensembles für Zeitgenössische Musik’ (the Synchrony Ensemble for Contemporary Music).

The works of Andrés Maupoint have been performed in Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Leipzig, London, Cologne, Linz, Zurich, Lisbon, Gothenburg, Lyon, Budapest and Rome.

1984 First prize winner of the "Claudio Arrau" piano competition for young pianists
1996 First prize winner of the composition competition for piano from the Chilean Society for Performance Rights (SCD) with the work "Cuarto de estudios sonoridad"
1997 First prize winner at the International Composition Competition "Olivier Messiaen" at the Guardini Foundation in Cologne with the work "Apocalypsis Ioannis"
2000 First prize winner in the composition competition "Bach adaptations" by the MDR TV Network in cooperation with the Academies of Music in Dresden, Leipzig and Weimar, with his work "Al Bechi"
2003 First prize winner at the XI. International Composition for Orchestra Competition: "Ciutat de Tarragona" in Tarragona, Spain with "Der Gefangene des Lichtes III" (The Prisoner of Light III).
