Javier Parrado studied at the National Conservatory of La Paz with Alberto Villapando and Cergio Prudencio and later attended master classes given by Edgar Alandia, Franco Donatoni, Reinhard Febel, Coriún Aharonian and Graciela Paraskevaidis. In 1993 he was the winner of the Adrián Patiño competition and guest musician with the OEIN-Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos.
For "Sendas lunar / moon paths", which was commissioned by the Bolivian Guitar Foundation, he received the first Prize for the Agustín Barrios Mangoré composition competition, at the "Aspekte Salzburg 2001".
Javier Parrado lives in La Paz.
