Madeleine Ruggli initially worked as a radio presenter, journalist, advertising and documentary spokeswoman, before she started focussing on music. She studied theory and composition with Hans Ulrich Lehmann at the Zurich School of Music and solo singing with Dorothea Bamert-Galli. She completed her degree, majoring in composition, music theory and solo singing.

Since 1992 she has taught music theory at various schools and academies, i.e. her own school of Music and Theory in Zurich, and also at the Conservatory and Music academy in Zurich, as well as at the Music academy in Luzern. In 2005 the University of Lucerne invited her to become a lecturer in music history and song composition.

Madeleine Ruggli’s catalogue of works includes orchestral pieces and chamber music with various instrumentation.

The composer lives in Eigenthal in Switzerland and also in Bellefontaine in France.
