Toni Völker studied from 1971 to 1978 at the Music Academy of Würzburg, under the guidance of Bertold Hummel and Klaus Hinrich Stahmer (composition, music theory, piano) and from 1977 with Eugen Werner Velte and Roland Weber at the State Academy for Music in Karlsruhe (composition, music theory). In 1982, he took his exam in Composition II, and received a diploma in music theory.
Since 1983 he has taught theory at the Karlsruhe Music Academy.
In 1984 he was appointed teacher of composition and made the director for the ‘Seminar for New Music’ at the Academy for the Art of Music in Darmstadt. He is also currently the head of the "Tage für Neue Musik" (Days of New Music) festival in Darmstadt.
His versatile catalog of works includes chamber music and solo orchestral works, oratorios and operas. He has received various commissions for his work e.g. from the Baden State Theatre Karlsruhe, from the Bavarian Chamber Opera and the Ensemble United.
Toni Völker lives in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg.
